Multi-instrumentalist Mark Murdock has assembled a notable cast to present what I assume to be a concept album Visitors From Another Planet. Drummer Ric Parnell (Atomic Rooster), Nektar’s Ron Howden (drums) and Mo Moore (bass) among others help bring Murdock’s project to life. My first impression of vocalist Tim Pepper (The Id) comes off as tame; conveying little to no emotion or power. His delivery gives the tracks a weaker sheen than they deserve, but as I listened, I find the music suffers the same fate. The instrumental “Purveyors of Underworld Ideas” is too repetitive and as mentioned with the vocals of Pepper, lacks fire and drive. Unfortunately, I don’t find this pattern changing as I make my way through the CD, the songs drag and fail to engage. There is a plodding and repetitive pattern that makes the tracks hard to distinguish from each other. Unfortunately, the end result is a flat and lifeless listen, whether due to production or performance I cannot say.
