Corners of Sanctuary: Blood and Steel-Fight till the End
Hailing from the lands of Philadelphia and known for their old school feel of Heavy Metal or Hard Rock, the boisterously enforceable squad of Corners of Sanctuary hit us harshly hard with another full-length record just only one year since the last one (minus the Christmas efforts) and they defiantly bring an essence of Thrash along with them on this occasion to keep us banging our heads to the maximum of our potential before our heads fall off.
So, is this contemporary offering from the United States based unit a strong one? Yes, most definitely in certain parts but not as a whole package. For me, there is some really great material here on offer, however to a further degree, there is a little haul that just does not grab me as much as the rest, leaving things falling flat and not grabbing my attention enough to completely win me over in the grand scheme of things.
Higher points arrive in the formation of tracks like the ground stomping Suicidal Tendencies influenced thrasher 'Casualties of War', the pedal to the floor hellraising spectacle of 'Let Sleeping Dogs Lie' and the battering ram effective opener of 'Fight (Brave is the Heart)'; giving the band that edge we all look for in regards to law book of Heavy Metal mastery. All these efforts are definitely triumphant Heavy Metal outputs and they should be instant playlist additions for fans of this particular genre without any question at all.
Furthermore, there are other sneaky entries that do effectively please and they essentially appear hotly in the bone crunching closing finale of 'The One to Blame' and in the demanding rifftastic earth shaker of 'In the Heat of the Fight'; keeping us on our toes and on the edge of our seats, whilst we still are headbanging away to the honest groove laid down through the music expressed by the guys in the group named Corners of Sanctuary.
On the other hand, there are a few weaker numbers on Blood and Steel: Fight till the End that just do not cut it for me in any way and they just become a bit of a repetitive tale that lets them wander away to become a stale product keeping this from achieving a level of consistency that would give this release a much higher score as a whole. Not bad as a new collection of songs for the American gathering, but this could have been so much better and stronger, nevertheless still a fun record to listen to when you want to be in that Heavy Thrashing mad zone and you are in need of a Hard n' Heavy party.
