Bloody Heels: Rotten Romance
What is intended to be a shift in a new direction for Bloody Heels is more of a generic effort all together. The musicianship on this album is undeniable, from screeching guitar solos and atmospheric breakdowns, yet the crafting and structures of the songs limit their capabilities. There are a few strong tracks here that hold the album together such as “Distant Memory ” “Crows Lullaby” and “Hours of Sinners” all tracks with a strong and heavy drive with great melodies and choruses that attempt to hook you in.
However, the rest of the album seems to suffer the fate of basic un-inspired filler that you feel you have heard before. For the majority of the record the vocals seem muddy and gravely, but seem to elevate on tracks that are sung in higher ranges. As a whole, I find there is just not enough stand out material to keep the listener wanting more. I feel the group would benefit more if they crafted more lengthier, melodic and active memorable tracks. What you get here is an album that sounds the same as any other band in this modern take on the genre.
