Sound And Shape: Disaster Medicine

A band working out of Nashville that I know virtually nothing about and the bands bio on their website is giving little away too.

This is a band seemingly searching for an identity as the songs fluctuate between different styles. `Filament and Spark` is a decent enough opener with its hard rock leanings. `Heirlooms` has some interesting time signatures going on yet still retaining at its heart a sense of the melodic, and `Someday Maybe` is an excellent example for its use of dynamics. `Sugar The Pill` has, at times hints of Rush about it, but without the shrill vocals of course and is a very palatable rock song indeed, and the album closer `How The Light Gets In` is a very atmospheric piece, that rounds off a pretty good effort all round from the band.

I sense that the band will fall between two stools, they are not quite `Prog` enough for Progressive purists and don’t rock hard enough for those with a more heavier bent to their tastes, which is rather a pity really as the band in general has a good feel about it.
