Fallen Sanctuary: Terranova

Nothing better than listening to a refreshing and inspiring power-metal album. This time it happens to come from Georg Neuhauser of Austrian symphonic metal group Serenity and Marco Pastorino, guitarist of the Italian melodic metal band Temperance as they now are united together under the Fallen Sanctuary name.

This album collectively brings together all of the elements of a great melodic- power metal album. Not one track of the bunch seems out of place and the result is quite impressive. Thundering drums, melodic vocal and guitar melodies, punching solos and inspiring and uplifting lyrics. Neuhauser has one of the strongest and distinctive voices in the scene and it is showcased here at his peak.

The most intriguing part of the record personally, was that I found the ballad of the album “Can’t Stay” to be my personal favorite of the bunch and was a good break from the epic tracks like “Broken Dreams” and “To the Top” It is a strong moving track that is very impactful lyrically and musically, especially at this time in our society.

All in all, this album is a great start to a group that should become a staple in the genre for years to come.

Fallen Sanctuary: Terranova

My Score:

The debut album from Fallen Sanctuary, a collective formed by Austrian vocalist Georg Neuhauser (Serenity) and Italian guitarist Marco Pastorino (Temperance), is a throwback to the melodic power metal of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Think Angra, Sonata Arctica and early Edguy. Hell, the glorious “Broken Dreams” even echoes Europe at its most bombastic. Neuhauser sings with a slight accent that might take a little getting used to, but you will -- trust me. The lyrics touch on everything from drug addiction (the title track) to environmental terrorism (“No Rebirth”), and the rhythm section of Alfonso Mocerino on drums and Gabriele Gozzi on bass round out Fallen Sanctuary. The result is a band that sounds seasoned, confident and -- dare I say -- joyful. Ah, power metal like it used to be…
