Intriguing riffs, melodic melodies and choruses with epic breakdowns are some of what you’ll hear on the latest Chaos Magic outing. This time it features Chilean vocalist Caterina Nix.
Caterina does a great job blending her vocals on the heavy, complex and progressive music laid down by the band. My favorite example would be the head-banging track “The Impossible” ; the slower riff with the haunting vocals makes for a great blend for the listener.
I feel the vocals and the rest of the group make the most of their soundal impact on this track. Other notable tracks include “In the Depth of Night” and “When if not Today” .
The only weak side to the album would be the production and construction of the songs. At times the production mix seems thin as far as vocals blending with the rest of the group/instruments. It is not enough to take away from the listening fully, but at times can make a negative impact. At times, the songs seem very familiar and similar, this could be aided by choosing a different song order for the record and more work on constructing more innovative and unique tracks. Nonetheless, this is a great album for Chaos Magic, their first with Caterina Nix.
