Parsons, Alan: From the New World

Another unique, hypnotic and stellar album from the great Alan Parsons. Following 2019’s The Secret, this album seems to have more direction and unification behind it.

Full of different lyrical textures and musical soundscapes, the album moves you along without many missteps.

The album starts with a few classic sounding tracks that I believe somewhat pays tribute to the Alan Parsons Project sounds of old such as “Fare Thee Well” and “The Secret” and the glorious track “You are the Light”

Yet it is done in a way that doesn’t seem forced and doesn’t feel like re-treading of old sounds, but rather a modern twist on it, while sounding fresh and expressive such as the closing track “Be my Baby”

The tracks on the album flow very well into each other musically and production-wise. All of the musicians and instruments compliment the songs extremely well & blend into the music and atmosphere perfectly, all while sonically cushioning the sounds behind Parsons on their respective tracks.

The only real downside to the record is that I feel the tracks with featured artists’ tracks sometimes take away from the drive and consistency of the album. The tracks themselves are okay, but I personally would rather have a whole album of all strictly Alan Parsons led-tracks. However, the three tracks with featured artists don’t take away from me enough to derail the album. Make no mistake, Alan Parsons is still here and has still got it.
