Black Eye: Black Eye

Black Eye is the latest venture from Pink Cream 69 vocalist David Readman, and one that will hopefully gain this British born singer a new set of fans with his particular brand of Melodic Metal. Although Readman is very impressive vocal wise throughout, his efforts are sadly let down with a set of songs which are, to put it rather bluntly ordinary and ultimately unimpressive.

The album on the surface comes across as big and bold but with songs such as `The Hurricane` and `Break the Chains` the album very quickly starts to lose its luster.

There are valiant attempts to raise the bar though, on the likes of `No Turning Back` which hints at better things, and is a decent slice of Melodic Metal, and the obligatory ballad `Midnight Sunset` which is crying out to be taken up a notch but it’s just left wallowing at ground level., and the only other track to offer anything of substance is `Under Enemy`s Fire` which fares somewhat better, but is a (small) diamond in a deep rough.

This is a missed opportunity for Readman who still has a mighty impressive set of pipes, but having to deal with, at best mediocre material does not do him justice in any way shape or form.
