Mentalist: Empires Falling
 An epic progressive power metal album from Germany based metal group Mentalist.
A more clear direction musically than previous entries, with powerful melodic tracks that drive the album all the way through. Filled with enticing riffs and powerful vocals along with glorious epic instrumentation that compliment and blend with the rest of the music extremely well.
With modern melodic-metal classics like “Colombus” and “Stairs of Ragusa” you get more of the straightforward epic power metal sound and punch that you would expect. However the treat of the album are the more unique and deeper cuts such as “Generations Legacy” and “Out of the Dark” These tracks offer a deeper insight into the band musically and lyrically and again, offer a change of pace from the more classic power metal tracks.
There is no real downside to the record. It is full of modern epics and head-banging progressive melodic metal with a lot to offer to fans of many types of metal subgenres. The only aspect that could impact listeners is the length of the album. The tracks are great but I think coming down to ten instead of thirteen tracks would benefit the record greatly. Nonetheless this album is a sign that Mentalist is a key player in the genre and progressing the sound forward in a way that sounds familiar and fresh at the same time.
