Lex-o-Lantern is the performing name of a classically trained Russian composer who has recorded a 79-minute concept soundtrack album based on the world of Mistland. The music is orchestral, lush, melodic and vibrant, with cool song titles like “Stovepipes of Mount Chimney,” “Witch Sisters,” “Ocean of Sunset,” “Misty Lullabies,” “Warms Socks and Mulled Wine,” “Midnight Orphans” and “Cold Frozen Moon.” The record’s label, Haarbn Productions, calls the music “symphonic ambient/dungeon synth.”
That said, with few online details about Mistland and what this music is supposed to mean, it’s difficult to fully embrace Lex-o-Lantern’s work. From an outsider’s perspective, though, Music of Mistland offers a welcome change of musical pace.
Fun fact: Lex-o-Lantern also is in the progressive-gothic band Mechanical Poet and other projects (including Last Fighter, Blacklight Devil and Luna Damien).
