Stranger Vision: Wasteland

Classic melodic modern power-prog metal is how I would attempt to describe this new release from Stranger Vision. Full of ripping guitars, thunderous drums and unique electronic soundscapes, there is a lot to take from this release. There are plenty of bands in the respective genre but few who sound quite as unique as Stranger Vision, and I believe that says a lot about the effort put into this record musically.

As I hinted at before, so many bands in this genre release the same sounding album one after another and offer nothing new to push themselves or the style forward. The production is extremely complimentary to the music and musicians on each track and provides a near “anthem” like quality to certain tracks such as “Desolate Sea”

The vocals aid the album monumentally and are always strong, clear and concise. The vocal style and flare fits into the instrumentation very well, never taking the listener out of the music. The album is full of orchestral and electronic sounds that underline most of the songs. It never feels forced or obtuse but rather feels like an underlying fabric of the album, which is the way it should be presented. I feel that is an accomplishment within itself, being that oftentimes bands use electronic aids but usually go too far and overtake the mix. The only downside to me is the flow of the album. I feel at times the tracks should be arranged in a different order to ensure a better listening experience. All in all this is a solid effort from Stranger Vision.
