Michael Bormann's Jaded Hard: Power to Win

A very basic and cliche effort from Micheal Bormann and company. With a large portion of the tracks sounding similar and uninspired, there is not much here to indulge in for me personally. There are good moments musically on the album with melodic choruses and melodies such as the opener “Nothing But a Photograph” If you are a fan of the previous album and material you will enjoy much of the same type of sounds and lyrical content that is included on this record. However for a listener looking for something fresh and innovative I feel you will not be kept intrigued.

I feel the musicians are well rounded and are obviously great players. However, it is the song choice and direction musically that I feel limits them to their full potential on the record. A majority of the tracks have the same tonal brightness to them and nearly all share the same feel and flow, that fails to intrigue or keep the listener engaged throughout. I feel Bormann would benefit greatly from a change of pace musically and sonically. The thin production on the album doesn’t do the band any favors and with more beefed up production and different musical direction I think they would have more standout tracks and success. Overall from slow ballads to cliche power rock and cringe-worthy political preaching on “We Must Take a Stand” there is not much here to enjoy.
