HolyRoller: Swimming Witches
Swimming Witches is the debut full length from HolyRoller, a psychedelic tinged stoner rock band from North Carolina.
Swimming Witches is full of solid riff-based stoner rock tracks, with tight performances all across the board. Fans of stoner rock in the vein of Red Fang and Queens of the Stone Age will enjoy this album.
It’s rare that a debut album is perfect and from my perspective the material on the album is a little variable, but most of the tracks have a solid riff and a decent groove which are no doubt the key metrics for this subgenre. My main knock on the album is that the vocals aren’t overly memorable- they’re not poorly delivered, but the melodic approach isn’t particularly notable or adventurous. Subsequently, whilst being a decent enough debut the album isn’t able to get its hooks into me too deeply.
Worth checking out if Stoner Rock is one of your favourite styles of heavy music.
