This is one of those reviews where mere words can't really describe the magic you will see and hear when checking out the product being discussed. Summer Shall Not Fade-Live at Loreley is the brand new live CD/Blu-ray set from UK progressive rock act Big Big Train, but in actuality, the performance isn't new, and goes back to their Night of the Prog festival appearance in Loreley, Germany back in 2018, and now serves as a fitting tribute to the late, great vocalist of Big Big Train, David Longdon, who passed away suddenly in November of 2021 at the age of 56. The loss becomes all the more heavy when watching this stellar concert of a band at their peak, and a frontman who is clearly beloved by the fans and his bandmates alike. What you get here is basically a 'greatest hits' plus some cherished deep cuts of Big Big Train, all performed impeccably, the high-definition quality of the blu-ray is outstanding, and the audio just terrific. Live versions of "Kingmaker", "Folklore", "A Mead in Winter", "Brave Captain", and "Wassail", among many others, are simply splendid, as the band weave their alluring blend of classic prog-rock, folk, and pop to glorious results.
Just do yourself a favor, and get this live set and marvel in the beauty of a vintage BBT live performance. The band will be continuing on with a new singer, so the future holds lots of promise still, but this document is a fitting 'goodbye' so to speak to their fallen comrade. RIP David!
