Teskey, Brandon: Screaming Into the Void

There are so many good guitar players out there today, and the Sea of Tranquility staff continues to expose me to more. That being said, it takes something extra to set yourself apart from the pack. I first heard Tesky in the band Until The Sun, and vocalist Alyssa Swartz not only stood out, she was severely underutilized. Tesky’s music sits firmly in the bluesy hard/classic rock vein, and he’s a decent player, but this falls into the I’ve heard it all before category. The opening two tracks fail to catch my attention, average blues rock. “Side Tracked” shows more of the fire one would be looking for, but alas, this is a Freddy King tune which shows the importance of songwriting as it stands above the tracks that come before it. There are also moments where Teskey seems a bit out of time in his soloing, couple that with lackluster songs, and there really is not much else to say.
