Throat Locust: Dragged Through Glass

Throat Locust who hail from Corpus Christie, Texas, are all about the old school when it comes to their brand of Death Metal. Leaning heavily into their influences which are worn proudly on their sleeves. Influences that include the 90’s Florida Death Metal scene legends as well as bands like Bolt Thrower and Pantera, although less of the latter can really be heard in the music.

Dragged Through Glass is the band's demo EP and is a window to their guttural souls. The music is raw, heavy and brutal. The EP opens with “Death Lurker” and the guitar tone is almost more of the swedish death metal buzzsaw sound. The riffs are aggressive and in your face and yet the band is able to kick into a higher gear with some groove added in too. The song really takes off for me when the band moves into the guitar solo section. Everything lifts and it kicks ass. “Corruption and Greed” is next and is another stomping aggressive onslaught of badass. I like how energized everything sounds. This is alive and visceral death metal. Finally they close out the EP with “Axe Grinder” which is another head chopping brutal assault in the same vein as the previous two tracks.

My only gripe with Dragged Through Glass is that the drums are too buried in the mix. Otherwise I like the raw unhinged sound they are cultivating and I hope they continue in this vein going forward just with the drums hopefully getting more love in the mix.

Definitely recommended for Death Metal fans who like it rough and ready, brutal and raw and old school all the way.
