Celeste: With Celestial Symphony Orchestra

Honestly, is there anything more breathtakingly beautiful in all of progressive rock than a Celeste album? These legends of Italian prog sure haven't been prolific in their career, but when the band graces us with new music, it's certainly a welcome event, and here we have their latest, With Celestial Symphony Orchestra. From the opening Mellotron waves of "Blu Genziana" and the subsequent flowing piano notes, we are off the races once again for an hour plus of gorgeous symphonic progressive rock music. Led as always by band mastermind/songwriter/keyboard player Ciro Perrino, Celeste's music takes the listener on twists and turns throughout this entire album, augmented by a full orchestra this go round. Whether it be on the dramatic & haunting "Nuove Galassie", the uplifting "Angeliche Prospettive" (oh, those flutes and clarinet!), the dreamy "Ali Passeggere" (there's that weepy Mellotron again!), or the sumptuous classic strains of "Cascate di Cristallo", there's no end in sight to the wondrous sounds this band can create. Vocals are mixed between male and female, and of course it's all in Italian, but that element only adds to the relaxed, alluring nature of this music. Celeste were never the most 'rocking' band in prog, and truth be told, there's literally no 'rock' on this album, but if gorgeous classical & folk drenched soundscapes littered with Mellotron, piano, reeds, horns, acoustic guitar, & gentle percussion sounds appealing, you've come to the right place.

With Celestial Symphony Orchestra is another fine additional to the absolutely gorgeous discography of Celeste. Ciro has stated that another Celeste album is in the works, so we anxiously await that one while continuing to enjoy this fine piece of work.
