Nichols, Jared James: Jared James Nichols

Now with a handful of releases under his belt, including EP's, singles, and a couple of full-length's, hot-shot US blues rock guitarist Jared James Nichols returns with his latest, self-titled album, jammed with twelve new songs chock full of his brand of blistering, raucous bluesy hard rock. Along with his trusty Epiphone Les Paul guitar, as well as drummer Dennis Holm, and bassists Clark Singleton & Greg Garner, Jared plows through one high-energy rocker after another, thumping grooves sparkled with screaming pinch harmonics and sizzling solos. Opening songs "My Delusion", "Easy Come, Easy Go", and "Down the Drain" start things off with a bang, the group coming across as a more bluesy version of Black Country Communion mixed with Rival Sons. From there, the results are mixed and bring about many of the usual blues-rock tropes that folks either love or don't. Jared's vocals are fine for the music, and his love for what he does come out crystal clear on tracks like "Bad Roots" and "Saint or Fool"...he's clearly having a blast here, but he's neither a great singer or a bad one. Most however will tune in here strictly to hear his formidable guitar skills, and there is an abundance of fiery licks, muscular riffs, and blistering solos to be found. Your mileage of whether that's enough to dedicate your time will vary, but songs like "Skin 'n Bone" have a lot of appeal to heavy rock & blues fans to give this a solid thumbs up.
