Greg Serrato, known as The Tornado, is a blues guitarist in the vein of Johnny Winter and Sonny Rhodes. His all-out style was captured during his 2005 appearance at The Coach House. Live At The Coach House contains eight originals and six covers all in the Texas-Blues style made famous by Stevie Ray. He is backed on the CD by drummer Alan Carter and Phil Fistori on Bass. Robb Howell comes on stage to play 2nd lead during the cover of "Voodoo Child".
This isn't going to set any new directions in blues, but if you like solid, funky, blues groves, Greg Serrato has all the hooks down. "Like a Tornado" contains some speed blues licks that are a little muffled at times, but overall is one of the highlights of the CD. Another is the rollicking "Holy Smoke". The best cover tune is the remake of "Before You Accuse Me", which is played in the style that Clapton used.
Live At The Coach House is a worthy addition to anyone's blues collection. Greg Serrato is traveling ground that has been seen many times before and it is sometimes difficult to leave your mark on such well worn territory, but The Tornado manages to stir the dust enough to create his own path.
