Yes, you read that right...one 46-minute song, recorded live from the Freak Valley festival in Germany in June of 2022 by psychedelic/space rock/stoner act Temple Fang. Basically, this Dutch band were working on the track "Grace" for an upcoming album, but couldn't quite get it right in the studio, so at the last minute before they were set to perform at Freak Festival with a pre-determined set list, the band decided to scrap those plans and just jam out to this new piece they were working on instead. Kind of a ballsy move if you ask me, but in fine psych/krautrock fashion, the end results are simply spectacular, and I'm sure easily outshines whatever they were struggling with in the studio. Comprised of plenty of wild guitar solos, effects, and dreamy vocals, "Grace" takes the listener into deep dark space at times, almost as if we were revisiting Pink Floyd's days at Pompeii, but with a different band. While there are some moments of heavy riff-o-rama (especially at the 33-minute mark), this is mostly a wild psychedelic head trip, the guitar solos sensational but never overly showy, the spacey effects so intoxicating, and the ambience massively trippy.
Those into more structured arrangements might get somewhat frustrated with Live at Freak Valley, but if you are one of those listeners chances are you wouldn't be reading this review. Come for the trippy jams and get swept away into this psychedelic cauldron-you won't regret it.
