Pride of Lions: Dream Higher
Ah yes, Pride of Lions are still a thing. Jim Peterik and Toby Hitchcock have been ploughing their bombastic style of upbeat melodic rock for twenty sound now in cahoots with Italian record label Frontiers Music SRL as they're now known. Dream Higher is the band's seventh album and is exactly as one would like to find a PoL album if you're a fan. If you aren't then move along, there's nothing to see here.
Everything you'd want or not in a Pride of Lions record is present and correct. Great hooks, superb melodies, sentimental lyrics, inspirational lyrics, tremendous guitar playing, Toby Hitchcock's clear enunciation which some find too theatrey (I don't) and of course, quite a lot of Jim Peterik singing .If you can't deal with any of that I say again, move along, there's nothing to see here.
Jim Peterik is a master writer of songs as evidenced by his back catalogue of which, apparently the Ides of March are the most important band he was ever a part of. There's silly stupid me thinking he used to be in Survivor. Well, I've read the press release and there's no mention of them. How odd.
Survivor made classic AOR/melodic rock and although the genre is moribund as a commercial force
from "Blind to Reason" to the last note of "Generational", Dream Higher is another winner for the chaps from Chicago.
