Saint Karloff: Paleoloithic War Crimes

Groovy and heavy, Paleolithic War Crimes is the kick ass new album from Norway's Saint Karloff (how cool is that name!), a band that calls themselves 'psychedelic, heavy, and raw'...and, that's a great way to describe them. Combining the lumbering might of early Black Sabbath with the spacey psychedelia of Hawkwind with a little of the humor of Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Saint Karloff have put together a 7 track release here that doesn't let up or disappoint from the opening notes of the crushing "Psychedelic Man" all the way through the final seconds of the album. Mads Melvold (who does everything but drums here, which are performed by Adam Suleiman) channels his inner Ozzy Osbourne as well as Ken Hensley with his tremendous Hammond organ on the wild "Blood Meridian", which is like a midnight jam between Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep, and "Bone Cave Escape" is a hard charging doom track that could have easily slotted in on Master of Reality. "Nothing to Come" blends some lush acoustic moments and spacey psychedelia before the heavy riffing comes into play, and "Death Don't Have No Mercy" is more Sabbath worship, a tremendously heavy slice of stoner/doom metal with gargantuan riffs...a real 10 on the richter scale for sure! Fans of the more psychedelic side of things will love the epic closer "Supralux Voyager", complete with lengthy drum & guitar solos, and loads of spacey synths.

When it comes to psychedelic doom/stoner music, it doesn't get much better than this. Paleolithic War Crimes is a hell of a lot of fun, quite heavy, and quite groovy. Don't miss this one folks...once again, Scandinavia is where it's at these days!
