Here's a cool reissue of a little known 1978 fusion gem from the late '70s from a band called Visitor 2035. Basically, one of those 'one and done' albums, and pretty obscure for decades, but something well worth your while if you happen to appreciate bands like Brand X, Secret Oyster, Return to Forever, Tony Williams Lifetime, and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. The members included:
John Mason: keyboards
Craig Pruess: trumpet, keyboards
Ray Deefholts: guitar
Nigel Robinson: percussion
Peter Stroud: bass
From the spacey cover art to the wildly virtuoso musicianship, Visitor 2035 bring the goods throughout these seven compositions. Every track is a winner, filled with tasty guitar & keyboard exchanges, busy rhythms, and the occasional bass or trumpet solo. "Toefunk" has grooves for miles, the bass is pumping, the drums are grinding, the trumpet soaring, and the keys just fabulous, while "Celestial Dream Song" just rips with some fiery soloing and ensemble playing. "Centre of the Winds" is CLASSIC '70s fusion (those guitar and synth solos are HOT!), and "Contemplation" is just a lovely, melodic closer. Not a weak track to be found to be honest, and I'm shocked that this little gem has been such an unknown quantity for so many decades. '70s fusion fans....your forgotten gem from the vaults has just been unleashed!
