What do you get when you cross Goblin, Zombie, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, and Gong? Why, Italy's Giöbia of course! The band's new album, Acid Disorder is a melting pot of psychedelic, space rock, and prog music that will sweep you up from the opening notes of the eerie "Queen of Wands", and take you on a hair raising journey throughout its 40+ minute runtime. "The Sweetest Nightmare" contains some lumbering Black Sabbath styled riffing, but the haunting effects laden vocals and myriad of drifting synths take things squarely into Hawkwind territory, a pattern that follows on the frantic "Consciousness Equals Energy". Using male and female vocals is another big draw to the music here on Acid Disorder, done expertly by guitarist Bazu and keyboard player Melissa. Other heavy hitters here include "Screaming Souls", the pulsating "Blood is Gone", the absolutely creepy space rock of "Circo Galattico" (which is my pick for one of the scariest songs released in 2023!), and the floating, closing title track. Expert guitar and keyboard explorations abound all throughout Acid Disorder, along with nimble drumming and those haunting vocals, making this one of the must hear space rock albums of 2023. Don't miss it!
