Just in time for the Halloween season comes Songs For Satan, the latest release from Poland's purveyor's of doom & stoner metal Dopeland. Coming three years after their last full-length Sign of the Devil, Songs For Satan picks up right where that one left off, and features roughly 40-minutes of gargantuan riffs, effective use of fuzz and wah-wah, pulverizing drums, and melodic, high-pitched Ozzy styled vocals. In fact, comparing this band to Master of Reality era Black Sabbath is a good starting point to get you on your Dopelord journey, but you could also throw in Electric Wizard and Windhand as a reference...if you like any of those bands, chances are you've come to the right place. "Night of the Witch" crushes, but it's so catchy at the same time, and the same can be said for "The Chosen One", which features some monumental guitars and floating vocals courtesy of Pawe' Mioduchowski. "One Billion Skulls" has some SERIOUS bottom end from the punishing bass & drums, while "Evil Spell" piles on the fuzz for a sound as heavy as Bongzilla and Electric Wizard at their most ferocious. "Worms" also completely decimates, and features a more harsh vocal delivery, and the band even busts out the Mellotron for the haunting closer "Return to the Night of the Witch", ending the album on a tranquil note.
The band state they are always busy 'smoking, rehearsing, and touring', and the results show here on Songs For Satan, a crushing album that should satisfy any and all your doom cravings.
