Hemina: Romancing the Ether
Sydney, Australia's progressive metal veterans Hemina are back with their follow-up to 2019's Night Echoes, and this time around, the 35-minute long title track makes up the entire album. The line-up for Hemina is:
Douglas Skene-Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards
Mitch Coull-Guitar, Vocals
Jessica Martin-Bass, Vocals
Nathan McMahon-Drums, Vocals
Those who haven't experienced Hemina before, expect a fair share of muscular prog-metal, dripping with a bit of djent, and loads of soaring hooks and harmonies. With all four members singing, expect some tremendous vocal passages here, and despite some sensational musical bombast and virtuosity throughout this epic track, it's the dazzling vocal interplay that really packs the ultimate punch here. That being said, some of the guitar solos are just absolutely blazing, the keyboards are nicely textured, and the rhythms are rock solid. The song is plenty heavy in spots, there's enough technicality to go around, and the melody is always given top priority. Romancing the Ether is an easy recommendation to any melodic progressive metal fan, and if this is your first exposure to Hemina, you'll quickly be left wanting to seek out their back catalog.
