Nuclear Power Trio: Wet Ass Plutonium
This one came screaming in at the end of the year, and unfortunately, I heard this too late to have in my best of 2023. But, as far as I am concerned, it belongs, this one goes to 11! Intense and intricate insanity from this trio, and as much as I am loving the guitar, all three musicians are killing it. This absolutely goes for the throat; kicks serious ass and takes names. There is no letup, but best of all, you can’t just call this a shred fest, as there are great memorable melodies to be had. Make sure to watch their videos on YouTube, they wear masks of Trump, Putin, and Kim Jong Un, and yes, it is funny. The shtick could get tiresome, but believe me; you won’t say the same about the music. The album does feature some guest musicians, and there are splashes of keyboard/piano and acoustic guitar in spots, but for the most part, you just get a ripping power trio assault. I am just as blown away by the bass and drums as I am by the guitar playing.
If you like your music heavy and relentless, then this needs to be added to your collection, a stellar album that will blow you away!

Nuclear Power Trio: Wet Ass Plutonium Posted by Pete Pardo, SoT Staff Writer on 2024-05-28 15:41:19 My Score:
Is Wet Ass Plutonium the most fun instrumental rock album of the last year? Highly likely. These guys have made progressive shred rock/metal as catchy as catchy can be, with no shortage of blazing solos yet instantly memorable hooks around every corner, with not a vocal in sight. And these songs groove! Blazing guitar solos, riffs, pumping bass lines, and acrobatic drums are around every corner, but it's as catchy as it's jaw-dropping. "Apocalypse Mao", the title track, the crunchy Latin jazz of "Nyetflix and Chill" (and check out the video!), and the funky "Snark Side of the Un" are just a few of the politically charged instrumentals on display here, and let me tell you, the guitar tones here are insane, silky smooth one minute, red-hot and distorted the next. No singing needed folks, this is 'pedal-to-the-metal' stuff that is sure to tickle your senses and send your mind into overdrive!
