Observers: Silent Space (EP)

Observers is a new side project from All India Radio’s Martin Kennedy. This new project is more metallic than his usual offerings, but it's clear to see and hear the many years of honing his craft.

The EP is made up of two tracks. The 2001-A-Space-Odyssey-inspired ‘Frozen Lattices of Light’, and the 20+ minute epic ‘Silent Space’. "Frozen Lattices of Light" will be on the upcoming album The Age of the Machine Entities, due for release this year.

I like what I’m hearing on this release. It's quality instrumental music that is both spacey and doomy. The press release states FFO: Bongripper, Clouds Taste Satanic, and Pink Floyd. I’d throw Tangerine Dream into the mix too, but despite the Floyd and Tangerine Dream references this isn’t a retro-sounding release, in fact, there is a real modern metallic edge to the sound. The release is mixed by Joe Haley (Psycroptic), and it’s a great-sounding EP.

Based on the quality of this release I’ll be keeping an eye out for Observers and the new album The Age of the Machine Entities when it drops later this year.
