TrancEnd: Lilac
When the Maurus brothers - Evan (guitar), Zach (guitar) and Ian (drums) were looking to broaden their horizons from their chosen death metal surrounds they began to create the path that would go on to become TrancEnd, an ethereal, but still forceful progressive pop outfit with a spacey vibe and hints of electronics. However, the jewel in the crown of their new endeavour was the teaming up with singer Brittany LeAnn, a young lady who brought in her lyrical and vocal skills to take what is already an interesting musical backdrop and raise it into something that with the right push could gain acclaim on a far wider scale.
At the risk of overstating things, LeAnn really is quite incredible throughout this album, her voice powerful, intimate, expressive and yet still giving off the impression that this young lady is singing directly to you. That ability takes the likes of “Waves Of Rosetta” and propels already interesting soundscapes into something much more gripping and accessible. The more straight ahead pop with a progressive edge of “Flicker” is quickly and enigmatically catchy, while “Another Day” brings a darker edge that suits this band down to the ground. However, what really grabs you as you traverse the musical landscape of Lilac is that what the Maurus brother have put together here created a platform for a singer to then come in and remould these beginnings into something more rewarding.
From the shimmering yet unwavering “Landing” through to the brooding “Green Yellow Light”, Lilac is a well realised voyage through tones and textures that becomes ever more memorable as you get under its skin. Throw in a top notch singer and as introductions go, TrancEnd have made an immediate impact and then some.
