Brand New Sin: Recipe For Disaster

This sophomore release by Syracuse band Brand New Sin is a collection of Southern Fried hard rock songs that flirts with metal but remain slightly more accessible. The band mixes well short, aggressive numbers with bluesy ballads without ever missing a beat or losing stride. Joe Altier's gravelly vocals are a cross between Zakk Wylde ( BLS) and Scott Stapp (Creed). He is well complemented by the twin axe assaults of Kenny Dunham and Kris Wiechmann, who supply just the right amount of infectious grooves, crunchy riffs and in-your-face solos to please the most ardent headbangers. The formula is simple but executed flawlessly. The album's title may in fact be the antonym of the music contained therein as this second recording by the band may in fact be the recipe for success if this band gets any kind of major exposure. Word of mouth may already be spreading like wildfire in the underground community as the group just recently toured with Motorhead and Corrosion Of Conformity. Century Media may have landed a bigger fish then they can hold on to and I predict that Brand New Sin will be signed by a major label in the near future. This band appears poised for a long and fruitful career if they can maintain and tweak the current formula. This is a very strong album which should appeal to fans of straight forward hard rock with a southern flair. Recommended.
