Gemini Five: Babylon Rockets

On Gemini Five's CD package they are listed as something that fans of the Backyard Babies or Hanoi Rocks would enjoy, but I don't agree with that at all. This is by no means a detraction from the fine rock and roll that they deliver on the CD as the band clearly has some hooks and there is a lot of fun stuff happening in the music. Yet while enjoyable I have to say there is a level of difference between them and the references. Would fans of Babies and Hanoi like them? Most likely yes but only as something new to try. The second tune of the CD "TwentyFourSeven" really should have been the opening track, as the hook caught me more than I thought it would. From there they caught me off guard by doing a rocking cover of the dance pop hit "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)". This track by Dead Or Alive was totally unexpected to find on a Pop Metal/Hard Rock CD and really was done to some positive effect.

As far as ballads go it seems that "Chemicals Between Us" serves as that tune and it sounds to me like this is a good number live. Just a big overall sound to it and I feel this track should be emphasized for radio play whether it is internet or cable and satellite based. "Myself Esteem" also has this type of potential and show that the lineup for the group is solid with Tin Star (vox/guitar), "Hot" Rod Teilman (bass/vox), Snoopy (lead guitar) and Slim Pete (drums) bringing you good old fashioned rock and roll that is punked up just a notch or two. This is a good enough CD to give a chance to if you are looking for music along the lines of the references. There really was not much that disappointed me, and in addition to the 12 songs the band includes two videos for you as well.
