Humanoid is the 17th studio album from German heavy metal legends Accept, and, once again, they have teamed up with producer Andy Sneap to deliver something that sounds, well, very much like their previous six albums working together. It's also their sixth album with lead vocalist Mark Tornilllo, who is now no longer the new guy, but the voice of Accept. Along with founding member and lead guitarist Wolf Hoffman, guitarist Uwe Luis, drummer Christopher Williams, and bassist Martin Motnik, Accept have created another solid slab of anthemic heavy metal here for anyone who has been around for the ride since their debut 45 years ago, or perhaps since their reunion album Blood of the Nations back in 2010.
This is no frills, catchy & riffy metal folks, and it's hard to resist songs like "Diving Into Sin", "Humanoid", "Frankenstein", "Southside of Hell", and the uber hooky "Nobody Gets Out Alive". When it comes to Accept, you just want to thrust your first in the air, play a little air guitar, and sing along, which you can easily do to "The Reckoning" and "Unbreakable", plus, the furious "Mind Games" will allow you get your head banging up just a little bit more. Is it all great? Not really, as both "Man Up" and "Straight Up Jack" are generic rockers to these ears that don't ilicit much excitement, but much of the album is very solid and enjoyable fare, and easily what you'd expect from these guys. Groundbreaking it isn't, but what we generally want from Accept is here in spades. Sneap's production gives it that 'metallic sheen' that is a signature sound of his, so all in all, you can't go wrong with Humanoid.
