Morgan Husband Feraud: A Soul In Time

Guitarist James Morgan, multi-instrumentalist Gary Husband (drums/synths/piano) and bassist Hadrian Feraud know how to kick off an album. Take a quick listen to “On The Edge�, and ladies and gentlemen, this is how it’s done. It harkens back to the spirit of 70s rock/fusion while showcasing everything these guys have to offer; it’s rocking, well-written, and features incredible soloing. The track has an intensity that’s rarely captured in a studio.

“A Feather’s Touch� features some fine piano/synth work courtesy of Husband. What a talent, and he showcases his mastery of both the kit and the keys throughout. The track has a moody undertone, and a catchy synth melody running through it. The title track features Eric Marienthal (Elektric Band) on sax, complimented by Husbands delicate piano work as the band grooves underneath. I love how the music takes those odd turns, offering you something unexpected and unique. Those little changes whether in tempo or structure give the music its magic. Feraud lays down an awesome bass solo, and from there Marienthal gets his punches in too. “Eyes of Truth� features another memorable synth melody, this one has a laid-back feel, while at the same time is lively and fresh. Each member shows off some tasteful playing, Morgan gets a bit atmospheric in his soloing at the end. They bookend the album with the hottest tracks, as “The Samba Sky� is a tour de force, wow. Guest percussionist Joey De Leon joins in the fray, with the entire band totally on fire. Listen close during the synth/electric piano solo (around the 3:00 mark), so good, and they keep it up when Morgan’s guitar kicks in. I’d have to say this is my favorite track, I’ve been playing it over and over, and can’t get enough of it.

The late Dean Brown helped compose and produce the album, and it sounds terrific. I hope we hear more from this band, if you are supposed to leave your audience wanting more, then mission accomplished. This 5 song, 28 minute CD shows fusion is alive and kicking in 2024, so don’t miss out.
