Annie Haslam joined the English progressive-rock band Renaissance in
1971 and has been the group’s most consistent presence throughout various incarnations over the decades. She’s clearly the band’s leader these days, and when Renaissance undertook its Legacy Tour in 2022, she was backed by several other longtime members plus the 10-piece Renaissance Chamber Orchestra.
This show was captured at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, Pa., in October 2022, and the 12-song set emerged as a pretty laid-back affair. Renaissance dove as far back as 1974’s Turn of the Cards, while also pulling material from four other albums--with "Symphony of Light" being the band’s most recent song, coming from 2013’s Grandine il vento album. Four songs from Haslam’s solo career also are featured, as well as one by the short-lived Intergalactic Touring Band project she was in with the likes of Meat Loaf, Ben E. King, Rod Argent and Percy Jones back in 1977.
Longtime fans likely will relish this, although Renaissance’s performance here might not be compelling enough to convince newcomers of the band’s legacy.
