Greek doom act Acid Mammoth returns with their latest platter of psychedelic destruction for Heavy Psych Sounds Records, Supersonic Megafauna Collision. Clocking in at just under 45 minutes with six tracks, this latest effort beefs up the crushing riffs, the Ozzy influenced vocals, and the brooding psych element, which you can detect all these things right from the opening menace of the title track. "Fuzzorgasm (Keep On Screaming)" is a piledriving masher, the riffs absolutely monstrous and the drums crushing, while "Garden of Bones" slows things down to a creepy, apocalyptic crawl. Horror film fans will certainly recognize the little snippet from a classic film at the beginning of the rumbling "Atomic Shaman" (I won't spoil it for you), another complete crusher that is a must-hear for any fan of the almighty riff, and then things get all "Planet Caravany" on the droning psych of "One With the Void". Closing out the album is the 12-minute "Tusko's Last Trip", another bulldozing slice of doom but with plenty of atmospheric psych passages interwoven between all the massive riffs and slicing guitar solos.
Offering a little more variety than previous efforts, Supersonic Megafauna Collision is a wealth of musical delights for those who love their doom with a healthy dose of psych experimentation. Well done lads!
