Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats: Nell' Ora Blu

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats' latest album, Nell' Ora Blu, is a bold departure from their previous work, and a successful experiment in creating a soundtrack for an imaginary Italian Giallo film. The album is a challenging listen, but a rewarding one, with a sound that's both psychedelic and doom-laden, reminiscent of Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd.

The album's concept is flawlessly executed, with Italian spoken word narratives and sparse vocals scattered throughout the mostly instrumental tracks. The music perfectly captures the essence of the Giallo genre, with a sense of tension and unease that's palpable throughout.

The middle section of the album is particularly standout, with tracks like "Il Tesoro di Sardegna", "Nell' Ora Blu", "Il Ritorno del Chiamante Silenzioso", "Solo La Morte ti Ammanetta", and "Il Gatto Morto" showcasing the band's ability to craft haunting, atmospheric soundscapes. The earlier tracks, "La Vipera" and "Vendetta", set the tone for the album, and are just as solid. Great guitar work, when there is one, and cool sax intervention here and there adding even more uniqueness to the musical output.

While Nell' Ora Blu may not be an album that you'll listen to every day, it's a fascinating curiosity that's sure to appeal to fans of the band and the Giallo genre, and while serious Pink Floyd fans enjoy their soundtracks, this album might be a worthy addition to that tradition as well…I guess only time will tell.

Overall, Nell' Ora Blu is a unique and captivating album that showcases Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats' ability to push boundaries and explore new sounds. It's a must-listen for fans of psychedelic doom and soundtrack music… cheers!
