Aarythmers: Cardiac

Aarythmers is a New Orleans based outfit formed and led by musician/singer/songwriter Guy Wall. They released their debut titled Below Sea Level in 2021 and in 2023 came their sophomore effort Cardiac.

In the band are:
Moses Eder (drums)
David Gilman (bass)
Matthew Keegan (drums)
Vince Marini (guitar, bass, vocals)
Emma Moates (vocals)
Rick Nelson (guitar, piano, organ)
Dave Pomerleau (bass)
Guy Wall (guitar, vocals)

This is a pop album pure and simple, and it is a darn good one at that. Guy wrote all the tracks and added guitar on many as well as getting together some fine New Orleans musicians. The melodies are ever present, with many an earworm to be had. The first two tracks, “Thinking Of Her” and “Senses” harken back to The Beatles with sophisticated vocal melodies and nuanced guitar work. The perky pseudo reggae rhythms in “WTF” make for another melodic gem, reminding me of late ‘50s pop music and a string of ballads including the Beatlesque “Stand”, the incredibly poignant “Find It Again”, and the serene “Love Forever”, featuring the enchanting lead vocals of Emma Moates, are all excellent tunes. “Nazareth” is a quirky pop rocker with sinuous guitar riffs and a near proggy arrangement while “I Was Wrong” dials up the crunchier riffs. “Upside Down” is another quirky pop rocker before the album ends with the blistering “Miss Right Now”, and all its punky swagger.

On a sad note, the album is dedicated to the memory Vince Marini (RIP).

If Cardiac is any indication I need to hear their first disc and hopefully album number three in the near future. Highly recommended.
