Franklin, Michael and Timothy Franklin: Anáhata

Brothers Michael (keyboards) and Timothy (bass) Franklin have been making music for a number of years performing and playing with several artists like Edgar Winter, Paul McCartney, Yes, Moody Blues, Toto, Joe Walsh, Jean Luc Ponty, and the list goes on. On their latest album titled Anáhata they get together with the Tower Of Power Horns quintet and notable artists like Larry Coryell (RIP) and Billy Cobham (Mahavishnu Orchestra).

The first track “Shinkansen� is an energetic and joyous offering featuring the Tower Of Power Horns and upbeat groove with a fantastic bass solo that will impress all you musicians out there. Michael’s Fender Rhodes' accents percolate throughout the piece. On the melodic “The Wall�, flugelhorn, saxcello, and trumpet all lend solo spots, just a relaxing groove to chill out to. The two tracks led by Billy Cobham (drums) are fiery fusion excursions with “Maynardvishnu� featuring blistering lead guitar from Tommy Carlton and “Chiba Chan� showcasing masterful keyboard, bass, and baritone sax solos, all under three minutes! Waves of synths and gentle caresses of sound mark the album ending “Pavanne for Deborah Ann� with one of the prettiest melodies on the disc. Tim’s sumptuous bass tones can be heard throughout. It’s a sweeping finale to what is a very enjoyable jazz record.

There you have it. For all you jazzers out there you cannot go wrong with this one. Recommended.
