Burn on the Bayou-A Heavy Underground Tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival is just that, a collaboration of bands on or associated with the Ripple Music stable of underground heavy rock, psych, doom, and stoner acts all giving some love to the great songs from throughout CCR's wonderful catalog. With 2CDs and over 32 songs & bands participating, this is a labor of love for sure and a great way to get introduced to new bands playing some very familiar songs. I normally don't go for 'tribute' albums, but this one intrigued me, A) because CCR aren't a band often covered, and B) because I love the Ripple label of bands and all they bring to the table.
Highlights are many, and there's too much to mention to be honest, but I always love when a band takes a classic song and makes it their own. Bone Church rips on "Fortunate Son", there's a heavy psych take on "Suzy Q" from Cities of Mars with Suzy Bravo, a sludgy "Bad Moon Rising" from High Priestess, rockin' "Ramble Tamble" courtesy of End of Age, a killer "Sailors Lament" from Kabbalah, La Chinga's fun take on "Sweet Hitchhiker", and a crushing "Sinister Purpose" courtesy of Roadsaw...but that's just a small fraction of the fun here. Other bands, such as Void Vator, Stubb, Fuzz Evil, Red Mesa, Horseburner, and even '70s stalwarts JPT Scare Band are on board, among many others. If you only listen to one covers album this year, Burn on the Bayou is one I can easily recommend.
