Paralydium: Universe Calls

… a beacon of originality in a crowded progressive metal landscape…

In an era where progressive metal has become increasingly homogenized, Paralydium stands tall, defying the norms with their unique blend of influences. This Swedish quintet's sound is crafted from a rich tapestry of 50% Dream Theater's complexity and progressive elements, 25% Shadow Gallery's melodic and symphonic flair, 15% Fates Warning's heavy riffs and intense vocals, 5% DeeExpus's atmospheric and introspective nature, and 5% Arena's neo-progressive intricate song structures.

On their latest offering, Universe Calls, Paralydium distinguishes itself through thoughtful arrangements, allowing each instrument to shine both collectively and individually. Vocalist Alexander Lycke possesses the perfect tonal range for conceptual storytelling, navigating crystal-clear highs and lows with ease.

Guitarist and main composer John Berg expertly balances shredding, heavy riffs, soothing acoustic layers, and some additional keyboards, culminating in standout tracks like "Forging the Past" and the epic two-part suite "The Arcane Exploration." The brief instrumental "Interlude" showcases his mastery of atmosphere and restraint.

The rhythm section, comprised of bassist Jonathan Olsson and drummer Georg H Egg, provides a sturdy foundation, navigating intricate time signature changes and tempo shifts with effortless coherence. Keyboardist Mike Blanc rounds up the Swedish quintet delivering great solos, intricate playing, and well-crafted arrangements and accents, enhancing the band’s work.

With a concise yet impactful discography, Paralydium is cementing its place within the modern, melodic progressive metal sphere. Their sophomore effort demonstrates a refined vision, honed craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to creative expression.

As we eagerly anticipate their future endeavors, one thing is clear: Paralydium is a shining example of progressive metal's potential for innovation and excellence… cheers!
