Chicago: John F. Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts-Washington, DC 9/16/1971

Let me get this out of the way first, as a Chicago fan, shame on me for never getting the Carnegie Hall set which was recorded in October of 1971. This band had it all, musicianship, great vocals, and most importantly they were great writers, you need the songs, and they've got 'em. The band also can improvise; you'll hear extended jams throughout the 3 CD set. Hearing the band introduce "Saturday In The Park" as a new song being played for the first time, wow, let that sink in! Strong intense performances, definitely a band in their element, Chicago was a band to see live. CD3 for me is the one I keep going back to as the energy level rises considerably as they close out with "I'm a Man", "Free", and "25 or 6 to 4". The mark of a great album in any collection is how often you go back and play it after it has been put on the shelf. I can guarantee this will get many revisits.

I can’t say enough about this live set, this is the way you want your Chicago, fiery, powerful, and full of energy. For me, I will make my way to the Carnegie Hall show at some point, but this one is a must-have for any Chicago fan.
