Haunted hail from Catania, Italy, and Star At Nothing is their latest album for respected stoner/doom/heavy psych label Ripple Music. The band is comprised of:
Cristina Chimirri: Vocals
Kim Crowley: Guitars
Luca Strano: Drums
Frank Tudisco: Bass
Haunting, spooky, and atmospheric doom is what Haunted is all about, and Stare At Nothing contains eight new songs full of massive guitar riffs, a throbbing bottom end, and Cristina's floating, ethereal vocals. After a brief intro, "Catamorph" lumbers forward, a gem of atmospheric doom, and that's followed by the crushing "Garden of Evil", complete with irresistible riffs, pounding drums, and more of those haunting vocals. Killer lead guitar permeates the monolithic "Back to the Best", and the piledriving "Malevolent" contains some of the juiciest riffs on the album, with a confident Christina soaring over the top in fine fashion. "Potsherds", the title track, and the crushing closer "Waratah Blossom" are also all top-shelf doom, and the production overall here is quite good, with all the instruments and the vocals crystal clear in the mix.
If dark, atmospheric doom with massive riffs and chilling female vocals is your thing (Avatarium, Lucifer, Blood Ceremony, Heavy Temple, and the like) then you need to add Haunted's Stare At Nothing to your immediate wish list. Highly recommended!
