Snakebite hail from Germany, and are one of the many bands playing what we like to call the 'New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal'. That's right, these guys look back to the glory days of metal, specifically the 1980's, and their music is chock full of hooks, big guitar riffs, soaring vocals, lots of guitar solos, and plenty of attitude. Nikki Wagner seems to be one of the focal points of Snakebite; he of the superior vocal pipes (he also plays guitar) , and the other being guitarist Chris Cobra. They are joined by bassist Alex Lecroix and drummer Julien 'Snake' Fischer, both superb players as well. Cobra Crew contains ten anthems, from the more crushing numbers such as "Blow It Up", "Weekend Warrior", and "Stormriders", to their more melodic material like "Don't Turn Away", "Heading for the Best", and "Long Way Home". While they don't sound like any other bands specifically (and even with the 'snake' in their title, don't expect a Whitesnake clone), you can hear elements of the early '80s classic metal scene, as well as moments of hair/glam metal; specifically, these guys sound American in a big way. With one memorable song after another, Cobra Crew is quite a lot of fun, and Snakebite are without a doubt a band you should put on your radar if you like classic metal sounds of the '80s.Â
