Though they are part of the Heavy Psych Sounds roster, a label mostly known for 'heavy psych', stoner, and doom bands, Italy's Mr. Bison probably come as close to progressive rock as they ever have on their latest release Echoes From the Universe, a seven-song set that showcases their growing songwriting and instrumental talents, and might even contain some of their best vocal harmonies to date. "Child of the Night Sky" opens up, a bright, energetic, and highly memorable rocker with soaring vocal harmonies, and with the intricate guitar arrangements, it should easily appeal to any loyal prog-rock fan. "Collision" has many of the same qualities (the weaving guitar melodies are quite intoxicating), and the lengthy "Dead in the Eye" will take you down dark psychedelic territory, complete with plenty of slippery guitar lines and more of those addicting vocal melodies. "Fragments" is damn catchy, and both "The Promise" and "The Veil" blend assorted heavy riffs with those glorious effects-laden space rock solos and highly engaging vocal passages.
Just sample "Staring at the Sun" to get a glimpse of what this band is all about, as driving riffs, pounding drums, and shimmering soundscapes all support the memorable, dreamy vocals. Great stuff here on Echoes From the Universe from a band that should be on your instant radar. Mr. Bison bring the goods folks!
