Sahg: More Of Nothing

Riffmasters Sahg return with a short 4 track blast that darts into view, hammers home its point and then just as quickly, disappears leaving you breathless and craving more. For any of those not in the know, Sahg debuted back in 2006 and now have 6 full length albums to their name. Guitarist and singer Olav Iversen is the band’s only ever-present and as they’ve slimmed from a four-piece to a trio, the rest of the outfit now comprises Tony Vetaas on bass and Mads Lilletvedt on drums.

Sabbath inspired doom laden heavy metal is the name of Sahg’s game and they nearly always play with a winning hand. More Of Nothing proves no different, the insistent and catchy as hell title track confirming the confidence with which this outfit build riffs and destroy all in their path, before the more discordant “Suffer In Silence� offers a slightly more unsettling diversion. Admittedly, T.Rex’s “Children Of The Revolution� will never be my favourite song ever, but at least Sahg manage to walk that fine line of being true to the original while still making it their own. However, I’d far rather wallow in the bleak dankness of “She’s A Woman�, which is a doomy blues-number that draws you in.

I’ve been a fan of this band since they first stepped forth and in all honesty, they’ve never let their standards drop. More Of Nothing continues that excellent run and the fact that my only complaint here is that this EP is too short illustrates just how good they are.
