Forq: Big Party
Are you looking to kick back and chill out to some cool music? My suggestion, throw on Big Party and let the music play. Music is meant to be enjoyed, and there are times where I find myself as a reviewer mulling over how to rate or judge an album, when maybe just listening and enjoying is all that I should be doing. This music has groove, it’s funky, and there is a positive vibe to the music. The infectious opener “Into Bright” has feel good written all over it. I just love the keyboard and guitar work here, and it’s one of the tunes on this album that I can’t get out of my head. “Big 3” is this groovy track that continues to grow and by the songs end is a cool jam, I can see the band wildly improvising with this one live. Tracks like “Kick The Curb” reminds me of a band jamming when suddenly they find that sweet spot, and just ride the wave. “Echo” has a moody keyboard intro, a bit darky than what I’ve heard to this point. My ear is soon drawn to the slide guitar, which when combined with that Rhodes keyboard tune hits the spot. The slide playing gets more aggressive towards the end, a real nice slow build.
The band has roots in the Snarky Puppy family tree, and that is always a good thing in my book. I’ve been hesitant to submit this review because the more I listen to Big Party the more I like it. This is fun music, upbeat, bright, lively, and played with energy.
