Sunstorm: Restless Fight

Sunstorm's Restless Fight marks a compelling intersection of classic hard rock and modern heavy elements. As Ronnie Romero's second outing with the band, following his takeover from Joe Lynn Turner, this album presents an intriguing blend of melodic sensibilities and heavier, guitar-driven textures.

Romero's vocal work, familiar from his stints with Lords of Black and Elegant Weapons, adapts remarkably well to Sunstorm's hard rock/AOR template. His performance is particularly noteworthy in the beautiful ballad "Without You," where he showcases a softer, more melodic side, complemented by a captivating drum segment.

The album's sound is distinctly heavier than traditional AOR acts like Journey, Foreigner, or 80s-era Rainbow, with guitar riffs and solos, courtesy of guitarist Aldo Lonobile, that pack a satisfying punch. The modern, heavy-hitting rhythmic section comprised by bassist Andrea Arcangeli and drummer Alfonso Mocerino, and the clever keyboard work by Antonio Agate further enhance the album's appeal.

While Restless Fight feels slightly front-loaded, losing some momentum after the title track, standout cuts like "Love's Not Gone," "Hope's Last Stand," and "Shot in the Dark" ensure a engaging listen. Sunstorm's music may not revolutionize the hard rock genre, but Restless Fight is a solid, enjoyable album that will likely inspire exploration of their back catalog. Cheers!
