Here's another quality release from Italy's Heavy Psych Sounds Records, the latest release from US doom/stoner veterans High Reeper, Renewed By Death. With eight new songs at roughly 35 -minutes long, Renewed By Death starts, kicks your ass, and gets out of town quickly and effectively. The band is comprised of:
Zach Thomas: vocals
Pat Daly: rhythm guitars
Justin Di Pinto: drums
Jimmy Althouse: bass
Shane Trimble: lead guitars
The opening title track pulls you right in, a fast and furious asault of crunchy metal riffs and Thomas's strong vocals, who sounds like Savatage's Zak Stevens at times, but it's the closing moments with some terrific doom-laden dirges that puts the final stamp on this excellent opener. "Alluring Violence" is another strong, meaty metal romp, filled with churning riffs and sizzling lead guitar, while the galloping "Lamentations of the Pale" will have you instantly headbanging and air guitaring to the almighty riff. The fuzz reigns supreme on "Broken Upon the Wheel", and both "Smoldering Remains" and "Torn From Within" contains a wealth of classic heavy metal firepower, with Trimble's lead work especially shining bright alongside some super crunch-o-rama riffing.
Great cover art, killer music, Renewed By Death is an easy recommendation to anyone who loves classic metal as well as modern doom/stoner.
