Jan Hammer Group: Live in New York

An original member of Mahavishnu Orchestra, the keyboard whiz probably made his biggest impact on pop culture with the Miami Vice theme. But, make no mistake, Jan Hammer is a top-notch keyboardist. He’s played with Jeff Beck, Al DiMeola, and Jack Bruce to name a few, and has written soundtracks along with producing.

This newly released live show from 1975 is a hard-charging highly energetic set from a band hitting the mark. Hammer rips throughout, and he shares lead duties with violinist Steve Kindler. The music is bursting with energy, “Red and Orange” put the lead instrumentalists front and center. “Topeka” from Hammer's collaboration album with Jerry Goodman Like Children is another highlight featuring the keyboard/violin trading furious riffs. The group is rounded out by the amazing rhythm section of Fernando Saunders (bass) and Tony Smith (drums) who drive the music. Sometimes you don’t need to say a lot, this is a must-buy for any fusion fan, Highly Recommended!
