The Berlin, Germany collective known as Weite follow up their 2023 debut Assemblage fairly quickly in 2024 with their latest release Oase, another great slice of instrumental psychedelic & prog-rock sounds. Formed in 2022 by Delving bassist Ingwer Boysen, Delving/Elder drummer Nick DiSalvo (he plays guitar in his other bands), and guitarists Michael Risberg (Elder/Delving) and Ben Lubin (Lawns), the band has also recently been joined by keyboard player Fabien de Menou (Perilymph). Oase contains seven new tracks and clocks in at roughly 50 minutes, and if you were a fan of the debut, you'll find that this latest ups the ante even more. The keyboard work of de Menou is a revelation here, as his array of synths lovingly drench the arrangements of tracks such as "(einschlafphase)" and "Time Will Paint Another Picture", especially on the former, in glorious krautrock tradition. The weaving guitars are simply intoxicating on opener "Versteinert", and there's some nice layers and big rock riffs on the hard-charging "Roter Traum". Fans of early Pink Floyd will love the spacey synths and soaring lead guitars of the lengthy "Eigengrau", while the tasty electric piano provides a soft underbelly to some scorching lead guitar solos on closer "The Slow Wave".
Album number two in the books, and it appears that the creative juices are certainly flowing stronger than ever for Weite, revealing more proof that anything DiSalvo is involved in deserves immediate attention.
